Our Mission

Siena Literacy Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of families in northwest Metropolitan Detroit by providing a basic education program for adult learners.

Together with our volunteer tutors, we teach reading, math, computer skills, and English as a Second Language (ESL).  Tutoring is done at our location in northwest Detroit having a minimal fee of $22.00.  Learners enjoy a comfortable environment with adults of all ages.

Since 1995, over 600 tutors have helped over 2000 adult learners meet the challenges of their everyday lives.  Please browse through our website to see what Siena Literacy Center has to offer.  Siena Literacy Center is a proud to be part of Dominican Rea Literacy Corporation and is an accredited affiliate of Proliteracy.

Adult learners come to the Center with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and goals.

  • A high-school dropout wants to improve his reading skills before he begins a GED prep class.
  • A laid-off worker wants to be able to fill out a job application.
  • A high school graduate wishes to get a better score on a college placement test.
  • A newcomer to the U.S. wishes to speak, read, and write English.
  • A young woman wants to qualify for Focus: HOPE.
