In February Siena Literacy Center partnered with St. Suzanne Cody Rouge Community Resource Center to open new classroom space to house group classes for English language learners.
The space has opened with one beginning ESL class, which began February 5 and runs through May. The class meets Monday and Wednesday mornings and is taught by returning Siena staff member Zoё Dixon. New class options could be added in the future depending on need and interest.
The classes are open to both new and current Siena students. Students must register and take a placement test to ensure they are a good fit for the class.
New space and class options are very much needed for Siena’s growing population of English language learners. In the first half of the 2023-24 school year, enrollment of new ESL students has nearly tripled compared to the first half of 2022-23.
